Hello everyone and welcome back!

We are gearing up for the Sylvan Lake Ice Marathon in February and looking forward to skating on the Red Deer Oval soon. Our FSSMA group has met and we're gearing up for a great weekend on Sylvan Lake which we are sharing with the town of Sylvan Lakes Family Day weekend festivities.

2016 Sylvan Lake Ice Marathons

Saturday 13 - 5k noon and 25k at 2pm

Sunday 14 - 100k 9am and the Valentines Tour at 10am

We will have our festive village set up with food, warming tent, seating, fire pits, music and some fun kid activities including Prix Slee (wood sled with metal rails and sticks with spikes!) races TBA during the weekend.

-We have online sign-up for these races on our website.

We will be having a spaghetti dinner for $15 on Saturday the 13th from 5-7pm at a location to be announced and then we'll join the Town of Sylvan Lake for fireworks from the pier.

Skating at the Oval in Red Deer

The oval is ready for skating and its beautiful! the City of Red Deer have done an excellent job and the ice looks great.

We will begin practices on December 28, they are Monday & Wednesdays 7:30pm – 9:00pm

Looking for Volunteers

As we head into the heavy organization of this skating event, we are already thinking of the volunteers that we will need to make it happen. In the near future we will be putting out a list of areas that we will need help with. Please contact us if you are able to help.

Our Sister Festival and Alberta Speed Skating Week

Remember our friends in Edmonton at the Silverskate Festival who put on a fantastic winter carnival and has a group of speed skate races as well.

-Their dates are the following weekend, February 20 & 21. Please see their website

Looking Forward!

We are very excited about this New Year being back on the lake with the races in 2016. We have a lot to look forward to and are hoping to get more skaters with some more word of mouth, social media and our newer advertising locally and abroad. We are also on AASSA’s (Alberta Amateur Speed Skating Association) events calendar and are hoping to get some younger skaters out for some of these races on the lake.

If you have any questions, please contact us by email and one of us will get back to you.

In the meantime….get your skates out and sharpened up for some skating on the Oval & Sylvan Lake!
